Field Hockey Drops Weekend Finale at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Maine field hockey team (1-4) fell to Michigan (2-2) by a score of 2-0 to close out its weekend trip. Annabelle Hamilton (North Vancouver, British Columbia) tallied the lone shot on goal for Maine while Zoe Adkins (Coquitlam, British Columbia) recorded a pair of shots.

Michigan jumped out to an early lead as Shannon Scavelli notched the first goal of the contest. The Wolverines took advantage of a penalty corner as Rachael Mark fired the initial shot from the point. Scavelli was able to get her stick on the ball, redirecting the shot into the back of the cage.

Just over four minutes later, Liesl Morris gave the Wolverines a two goal advantage. Michelle Roberts carried the ball into the Maine zone and sent a centering pass through the circle. Morris was able to send a diving shot into the cage, pushing the Michigan lead to 2-0.

The Black Bears had an opportunity to climb within a goal of the Michigan lead with ten minutes remaining as Annabelle Hamilton (North Vancouver, British Columbia) put a shot on the cage. However, Michigan defender Leslie Smith made the defensive save, keeping Maine off the scoreboard.

Hamilton then return the favor three minutes later as she made a defensive save on Mack's shot, keeping the Black Bears within a pair of goals. However, Maine was unable to find the back of the cage, dropping the contest 2-0 at Michigan.

Michigan held the edge in shots 10-3 and penalty corners 7-4.

The Black Bears return home for their next contest as they will host Rutgers on Friday, Sept. 7 at 3 p.m.
