Sevey Named America East Player of the Week
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder, Nicole Sevey, was honored by America East on Monday as the conference's player of the week. The award came on the heels of Sevey's huge day against Quinnipiac where she finished the game two points shy of the all-time program record for points in a single game.
Sevey recorded at least one point in all three games that were on last week's slate for the Black Bears. She tallied one assist against #19 Boston College on Tuesday and followed that up with a four goal, two assist performance this weekend.
Sevey scored one of the Black Bears' five goals against Hofstra last Saturday while she had her breakout game on Sunday, scoring three markers and tallying two assists against Quinnipiac. Sevey was two points shy of the program record (10 points). The first half of the game against the Bobcats it was all Sevey, who recorded her hat trick in the first frame. She followed that up with two assists to close out the game.
The Skowhegan, Maine native helped the Black Bears earn their first two wins of the year in the process. Offense was a big part of it as Maine scored 14 goals in the three contests as they posted back-to-back five goal games against Hofstra and Quinnipiac.
Sevey and the Black Bears now prepare for a tough weekend as the team travels to Burlington, Vt., for matches against Virginia and Brown. The Black Bears face Virginia on Saturday, starting at 11:00 a.m., and will conclude with Brown on Sunday, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
