Two Black Bears Earn America East Field Hockey Weekly Honors
CAMBRDIGE, MASS. – One week after going 2-1 and tallying big wins over Dartmouth and Fairfield, America East honored both Holly Stewart and Danielle Aviani on Monday, as the duo earned the conferece player of the week and rookie of the week awards, respectively. The two combined for six goals and three assists in three games.
Stewart was the model of consistency for the Black Bears through the three contests as she recorded one goal and one assist in all three matchups. She helped the Black Bears to a 4-2 win over Dartmouth on Tuesday, scored again in the team's 5-1 win against conference foe, Fairfield, on Saturday, and followed it up with a strong effort in the team's overtime loss (3-2) against Yale on Sunday. Stewart is now second on the team in points with 24 (nine goals six assists).
Aviani was another big point producer for Maine field hockey this past week as she scored three goals. She tallied a marker against Dartmouth and two against Fairfield on Saturday. Aviani has really turned up her play in recent weeks as she has now tallied points in six of the last eight contests.
The Black Bears now head down the homestretch of its season with the final three games coming up in the next two weekends. The Black Bears head to Boston, Mass., on Oct. 27 to face California and follow it up against Providence on Oct. 28. Game times are slated for 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
