MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay – Former Maine field hockey student athlete, Jocelyn Mitchell, got off to a strong start for the Canadian national team as they compete at the 2014 Indoor Pan America Cup in Montevideo, Uruguay, this week. The 2011 alumna scored a goal in her first taste of action in the tournament on April 1 as squad took on Argentina.
Mitchell, who scored 107 points in her Black Bear career, got on the board for team Canada in 24th minute of their opening round contest against Argentina, scoring the sixth goal of the game on the way to a 10-0 rout
Canada also played the United States in a 0-0 draw on April 8 and will continue its quest for the cup today against Uruguay at 10 p.m. EST.
Mitchell first saw international action for Canada in 2012 as she competed against her neighbor to the South, USA, in Victoria, B.C. on May 19-23. She also competed in the World League first round in Nov. 11-17, also in 2012, in Trinidad & Tobago.
The Kanata, Ontario native lists her career highlights along with her 107 points at the University of Maine, as winning a gold medal for the U-18 Ontario team and earning the Earl of March Female Athlete of the year award.
