OTTAWA, Ontario – Rising junior of Maine field hockey, Holly Stewart will once again join the Canadian national team at the 20th edition of the Commonwealth Games, held in Glasgow, Scotland, this coming July. Stewart joins the roster with 15 other players, which was announced by Field Hockey Canada and Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) on Tuesday.

The North Vancouver, British Columbia, native is one of 11 newcomers to take part in the games with 10 previous international competitions under her belt.

"On behalf of our program I would like to congratulate Holly on her selection to the Canadian National Team competing in the 2014 Commonwealth games," Maine field hockey head coach Josette Babineau said. "Since the junior World Cup, it has been a goal of Holly's to be selected to this team and she has been working hard on all aspects of her game to be able to compete at the international level.  We are very proud of Holly and wish the team success at the Commonwealth Games."

Stewart began her international career when she competed in the USA-Canada Challenge as a part of the junior U17 women's team on April 4-8, 2012. She has since competed in Buenos Aires, Argentina for the 2012 Argentina Tour from May 24 to June 3, 2012. She continued in Surrey BC for the Mexico vs. Canada contests on June 18-20, 2012, and finished the year with a swath of games in Europe from July 4 through 21, and the 2012 Pan Am junior championships from Sept. 10-23 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

"There is no feeling in the world like representing your country," Stewart said. "Being named to the Team Canada Commonwealth Games is such an honor; I'm excited beyond belief to show the Commonwealth Countries what Canada is capable of doing."

In 2013 Stewart competed in Dublin, Ireland at the 2013 Ireland Tour (June 17 to July 3) for the senior women's team and added the 2013 women's junior World Cup games from July 27 to August 4, to her already lengthy resume.

"Seeing a direct link between all of the hard work and effort I have put in, in the last few months and this opportunity, is very rewarding," Stewart remarked. "I hope that my experience at these Games will help me work towards becoming the best player I can be for both Canada and the Black Bears"

Stewart scored her first international goal in just her second game playing with her junior squad at the USA-Canada series on April 4, 2012. Stewart's goal in the 12th minute of play helped give Canada its first win in the series.

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will be held from July 23rd to August 3rd, 2014, and will be the largest ever multi-sport event held on Scottish soil.

Canada's first field hockey match will take place on July 24th beginning at 2 p.m. as Canada takes on India. Stewart and her teammates will then take on the Republic of South Africa on July 25th, followed by Trinidad and Tobago on July 27th and finish off with New Zealand on July 30th.
