Maine Awarded 2007 ZAG/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team Award

ORONO, Maine-The University of Maine field hockey team was honored with the 2007 ZAG/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Team Award on Monday. The Black Bears were singled out as one of the Top 5 Performers for Team grade point average with a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Maine also had 10 student-athletes named to the 2007 ZAG/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. Old Dominion led the nation with a 3.68 team GPA, followed by American University and Indiana University which were tied for second with a 3.51 team GPA. The Black Bears were fourth with a 3.50 team GPA, followed by Monmouth University with a 3.49 team GPA. The Black Bears were one of 48 teams nationally that posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. In addition to being honored as a team, Maine had 10 student-athletes honored individually. Kristen Healy (Turner, Maine), Christie Mosley (Hampden, Maine) and Erin Reusch (Salem, N.H.) were each named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad for the fourth time this year. Nicole Emery (Winthrop, Maine) and Rebecca Giroux (Augusta, Maine) were honored for the third time. Mallory Anderson (Hampton Falls, N.H.) and Mallory Shute (Norridgewock, Maine) received recognition for the second time in their careers. Brittney Cummings (Belfast, Maine), Máire Dineen (Toronto, Ontario) and Cassandra Mendonca (Thornhill, Ontario) all were honored for the first time this year.
