Maine Releases 2008 Field Hockey Schedule

ORONO, Maine- University of Maine field hockey coach Josette Babineau announced her 2008 schedule today. The 2008 slate for the Black Bears features a tough non-conference schedule, along with the traditionally competitive America East teams. The Black Bears will open their new field on Sept. 7 against Brown.

Maine opens the season on Sun., Aug. 31 against Sacred Heart, a game that will be played at UConn. The Black Bears will face national power UConn the following day.

The Black Bears play their home opener on their new field on Sun., Sept. 7 when they host Brown at noon. Maine then travels to Burlington, Vt. to face Monmouth on Sat., Sept. 13 and Ohio State on Sun., Sept. 14. Maine will return home to host Bryant on Sat., Sept. 20 and Quinnipiac on Sun., Sept. 21.

The Black Bears then hit the road for a three game road trip. Maine travels to Providence on Sun., Oct. 28. The Black Bears play their first America East Conference game of the season on Sat., Oct. 4 at Albany, before playing at Colgate the following day. The Black Bear then host New Hampshire on Sat., Oct. 11 before traveling to Providence for a game against Rutgers on Sun., Oct. 12.

The Black Bears travel to defending America East champion Boston University on Sat., Oct. 18 and then to Vermont for a battle with the Catamounts on Sun., Oct. 26. Maine plays its final regular season home game on Sat., Nov. 1 when it hosts Fairfield and closes out the regular season on Sun., Nov. 2 at Holy Cross.

The top-four seeds will earn a berth in the 2008 America East Tournament which will take place Nov. 7-9, 2008. The Black Bears return two of their top three scorers from the 2007 campaign including senior Nicole Emery (Winthrop, Maine) who scored three goals and added four assists for 10 points, along with senior Kim MacDonald (East Greenwich, R.I.) who scored three goals to go along with a pair of assists for eight points a year ago.
