Coach Lewis Awarded WHEA Co-Coach of the Year
Coach Maria Lewis was named Hockey East Co-Coach of the Year
after an incredible 2011-12 season with the women’s hockey
team. Lewis will be honored at the annual WHEA Championship Awards
Banquet in Hyannis, Mass. on Friday evening.
Coach Lewis coached the Black Bears to a 17-10-6 regular season
record; the first time the team has ended the season over .500
since 2005-06. During her two years with the program, Lewis has
coached the team to a 29-28-11 record and has also led them to the
Hockey East Playoffs both years.
The team surpassed the previous mark of most conference wins in a
season (9) this year after finishing with a record of 11-8-2. The
Black Bears also tied the mark for most wins overall in a season
with 17. Maine was also awarded Team of the Week as named by Hockey
East on five separate occasions this season, tying them with the
season champions Northeastern for most in the season.
