Women's Hockey Hosts Providence for Annual Skating Strides Event Sunday at Noon
The University of Maine women’s hockey team will host
Providence College for the Sixth Annual Hockey East Skating Strides
Against Breast Cancer event. The game is set to take place on
Sunday, January 22, at Noon instead of the original start time of 3
p.m. The team will also play host to the University of Connecticut
on Friday, January 20, at 2 p.m.
In the weeks leading up to the game, the team has been taking part
in multiple fundraising activities to raise money for the Patrick
Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing, located at Central
Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine. The team has been selling
pink pucks at many home athletic events and will still be selling
them up until the game on Sunday. The pucks are available for a
minimum donation of $1 and are hung outside of the Alfond Family
Lounge. With all proceeds benefiting the Dempsey Center, all of the
money raised in the state of Maine, will stay in the state of
Maine.
At the game, there will be a ceremonial puck drop performed by
Mary Dempsey, sister of Patrick Dempsey and Assistant Director of
the Dempsey Center, as well as other representatives from the
Dempsey Center. During the game, there will be t-shirt giveaways as
well as other events throughout the day. Following the game, there
will be a post-game autograph session featuring the members of the
women’s hockey team as well as a silent auction of the
commemorative game jerseys. Auction sheets will be available at the
main entrance before the start of the game.
