Maine Falls to Northeastern 3-0

Boston, Mass. – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Northeastern this afternoon at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass. The Black Bears fall to 1-5-0 and 1-3-0 in Hockey East while Northeastern improves to 5-1-1 and 1-1-0 in Hockey East.

The first period was left scoreless as Northeastern held a 12-2 shot advantage over Maine.

Kendall Coyne scored her eight goal of the season at 4:27 into the second period, as the Huskies were able to capitalize on the power play. Rachel Lianes picked up her fifth assist of the season on the goal.

Kelly Wallace gave Northeastern a 2-0 lead at 15:15 into the second period on an even scoring opportunity. Katie MacSorley picked up her second assist and Claire Santostefano notched her first of the season.

The Huskies held a 13-7 shot advantage over the Black Bears in the second period.

Coyne notched her second goal of the game at 18:21 into the third period on an empty net as Maine attempted to pull the goalie for an extra skater.

Maine held a 14-7 shot advantage over Northeastern in the third period.

Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Michigan) and Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) each notched four shots for Maine.

Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, New York) got the start for the Black Bears between the pipes as she allowed two goals while saving 29 shots. Treacy sees her record fall to 0-3-0 on the season.

Chloe Desjardins started for the Huskies in net as she tallied 23. Desjardins sees her record improve to 5-1-1.

Maine returns to action on November 2 as it hosts Providence for a 2:00 PM game. The Black Bears will also faceoff against Providence on November 3 for a 1:00 PM puck drop.
