Black Bears Fall to Terriers, 4-2

Orono, Maine – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell to Boston University on Sunday afternoon at the Alfond Arena by a score of 4-2. The Black Bears fall to 3-17-1, 1-10-1 in Hockey East while the Terries improve to 14-3-3, 9-2-1 on the season.

Shannon Doyle registered the first goal of the game at 19:25 of the first period on the BU power play opportunity. Jill Cardella and Marie-Philip Poulin assisted Doyle on the goal.

Brittney Huneke (Hastings, Minnesota) notched her second goal of the 2012-13 season on the even opportunity at 6:46 of the second period for the 1-1 tie. Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba) passed to Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Michigan) who passed the puck from left to right where Huneke took the one timer from the top of the offensive zone. More picks up her sixth assist on the season while Dougherty notches her 13th.

Louise Warren pushed the score to 2-1 in favor of the Terriers as she beat the Black Bear goalie on the penalty shot opportunity that ensued after the Megan Menotti (Vernon Hills, Illinois) tripping penalty at 10:57 of the second period.

Jennifer More tied the game at 2-2 at 18:13 of the second period for her sixth goal of the season. Maine was able to take advantage of the power play opportunity as Kayla Kaluzny (Calgary, Alberta) passed from right to left hitting Dougherty; Dougherty immediately passed the puck down to More who was deep in the offensive zone.

Kayla Tutino notched the eventual game winner at 2:52 of the third period off the Shannon Stoneburgh and Warren assist. Poulin would net the fourth and final goal for the Terriers at 12:12 of the third period off the Sarah Lefort and Jenelle Kohanchuk assist.

Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Michigan) anchored the Black Bears in net as she allowed four goals while registering 31 saves. Ott sees her record fall to 3-10-1.

Both teams went 1-6 on the power play while the Terriers held a 35-17 shot advantage over the Black Bears.

Maine returns to action on January 18 and 19 as it hosts Vermont for a two game series. Game time is slated for 2:00 PM on Friday and 1:00 PM on Saturday.
