Massey, Black Bears Skate to 1-1 Draw with UConn

STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with UConn on Saturday afternoon in Storrs, Conn. Katy Massey (Waterville, Maine) notched her fourth goal of the season in the game for the Black Bears. 

UConn struck first, 7:04 into the first period, when Emily Snodgrass netted her third goal of the season from Alice Hughes and Caitlin Hewes. The Huskies took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission. 

Maine answered early in the second period when Massey beat Husky goalie Elaine Chuli at 2:43. Missy Denk (Poplar Grove, Ill.) and Kayle Kaluzny (Calgary, Alberta) each assisted on Massey's goal. 

Neither team was able to find the net the remained of regulation or during the five-minute overtime period as the game finished in a 1-1 tie. 

Maine finished the game with a commanding 45-17 edge in shots on goal. The Black Bears were 0-for-4 on the power play, while UConn was scoreless in three chances. 

Maine goalie Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) made 16 saves and moves to 4-10-3 on the season. Chuli stopped 44 shots for the Huskies. 

Maine moves to 4-17-3 on the season and 1-10-2 in Hockey East play. UConn sees its record move to 3-19-3, 1-10-1 in conference play. 

The Black Bears return to action on Sunday, Jan. 27 when they travel to Providence. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 PM.
