Women’s Ice Hockey Annual “Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer” Game to Take Place Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
Orono, Maine – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team will be holding its annual "Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer" game sponsored by FairPoint Communications on February 2, 2013 as they play host to Boston College at 7:00 PM.
The Black Bear ladies have organized many events to coincide with this special game. The team has been selling "pink pucks" at many of the Black Bear home games throughout the month of January, which will conclude on Sunday, February 3 at the men's ice hockey home game.
The Black Bears will also be auctioning off special pink game worn jerseys, provided by FairPoint Communications throughout the game. Fans will be able to bid on their favorite player(s) jerseys in the main lobby of the Alfond Arena with the auction cut off time at the 10-minute mark of the third period. All money raised will go directly to support breast cancer research and awareness.
Members of Hockey East will also be on hand selling their own "Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer" gear to fans. There will also be a post-game autograph session for fans following the conclusion of the game.
There will be a ceremonial puck drop prior to the start of the Women's Hockey East showdown Saturday evening with Mary Dempsey, Assistant Director of the Patrick Dempsey Cancer Center.
The 2012-13 season marks the 7th Anniversary of Hockey East Skating Strides. Hockey East has collectively raised nearly $208,000, including a record $45,215 in 2012. At the same time, the program has increased attendance at women's ice hockey games at all eight member institutions.
