Black Bears Fall to Wildcats in Regular Season Finale, 2-1
Durham, N.H. – The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell to New Hampshire by a score of 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Durham, New Hampshire. With the loss, the Black Bears end the regular season with a record of 5-23-4 and 2-16-3 in Hockey East while the Wildcats end with a 14-15-4 record and 10-8-3 in Hockey East.
The first period went scoreless with New Hampshire holding a 14-7 shot advantage over Maine.
The Wildcats opened up the scoring at 5:52 of the second period on a power play opportunity. Nicole Gifford registered the goal with Hannah Armstrong and Alexis Crossley notching the assists on the advantage.
Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) knotted the game at 1-1 at 16:31 of the period. This marks her seventh goal of the season. Katy Massey (Waterville, Maine) tallied her fifth assist of the season while Hailey Browne (Oakville, Ontario) notched her fourth.
The second period ended with a 1-1 tie. The two teams posted 11 shots each in the frame.
New Hampshire registered the only goal of the third period for the 2-1 win. Sara Carlson notched the game-winning goal at 7:03 of the period. Kayla Mork and Jenna Lascelle tallied the assists on the even strength goal.
Maine held a 9-4 shot advantage over New Hampshire in the final period.
Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Michigan) anchored the Black Bears in net. Ott allowed two goals while notching 27 saves. She sees her record fall to 5-15-3 on the season.
Jenn Gilligan allowed one goal while posting 26 saves.
New Hampshire held a slight 29-27 shot advantage over Maine. The Black Bears went 0 for 6 on the power play while the Wildcats went 1 for 3.
