Maine Ties UConn 4-4
ORONO, Maine- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team tied UConn 4-4 on Sunday afternoon at Alfond Arena.
The Black Bears struck again when senior Kelly McDonald (Ancaster, Ontario) passed the puck to Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minn.) in front of the net. Richards put the puck by UConn goalie Elaine Chuli at 4:15 in the second period.
Maine fired again at 10:06 in the second period when Eve Boissonneault (Sudbury, Ontario) stole the puck and found Katy Massey in front of the net (Waterville, Maine) for her first goal of then season.
Maine ended the second period leading 3-0.
UConn came out hot in the third period scoring four goals. The Huskies had their first goal of the game at 10:57 in the third when freshman Kelly Harris put one by Maine goalie Meghann Treacy (Peekskill, N.Y) on a pass from Leah Buress.
Maine answered with a goal from sophomore Abbey Cook (Fairpoint, N.Y.) in front of the net assisted by McDonald and Langtry.
UConn wasn't done, the Huskies had three back-to-back goals in the third. The first was a hard slap shot from senior Erin Burns on a pass from Sarah MacDonnell at 15:03 in the third.
UConn continued their streak with two more goals to tie the game. At 17:29 Michela Cava struck again when she put another one by Treacy. UConn tied the game 4-4 with just seconds to go when junior Kayla Campero took a shot in front of the net to take the game into overtime, with their goalie pulled in favor of an extra attacker.
Both teams remind scoreless in overtime.
Maine outshot UConn 38-24.
Black Bear goalie Meghann Treacy made 20 saves while UConn goalie Elaine Chuli made 33 saves. UConn moves to a 3-5-1 record
