ORONO, Maine- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team made the 8th Annual Skating Strides game a success both on and off the ice. The team earned a conference win along with contributing to the fight against breast cancer.
For the Hockey East Skating Strides event the Black Bears raised nearly $5,000 for the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing. The women sold pink pucks at various sporting events leading up to the game as well as auctioning off their game worn pink Skating Strides Jersey's after the game. Each year this event continues to help in the fight against breast cancer in the state of Maine.
The women's ice hockey team had success on the ice with a 1-0 win over Providence College. Sophomore goalie Meghann Treacy (Lake Peekskill, N.Y.) had her first career shutout and sophomore Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minn.) scored Maine's winning goal.
Thanks to everyone who came out and helped make Skating Strides a success!
