Massey and Kilgour Named Two of Three Hockey East Top Scholar-Athletes

WAKEFIELD, Mass. --The University of Maine women's ice hockey team led all league schools with 20 student-athletes named to the 2013-2014 Women's Hockey East All-Academic Team. In addition, Katy Massey (Waterville, Maine) was named one of three Hockey East Top Scholar-Athletes. It is the third straight season that she has earned the honor with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She was joined this season by teammate Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) who also earned a perfect 4.0 GPA this year. 

Massey and Kilgour were named to the 2013-2014 Hockey East Academic All-Star Team, while recognizes the top grade point averages by position. Kilgour and Massey were each named at forward.

Twenty of the 26 student-athletes on Maine's roster received recognition. 

To be honored, a student-athlete must have posted a 3.0 in each of the two academic periods in which she was actively competing. Kayla Kaluzny (Calgary, Alberta) and Kelly McDonald (Ancaster, Ontario) were named "Distinguished Scholars" for posting a 3.0 grade point average in each semester the past four years. They were two of 10 Hockey East scholar-athletes to receive the honor. 

Kilgour and Massey were each honored for the third time in their careers. 

Abbey Cook (Fairpoint, New York), Jessica Hall (Ingersoll, Ontario), Brittany Huneke (Hastings, Minnesota), Brooklyn Langlois (Steinbach, Manitoba), Jillian Langtry (Fort Frances, Ontario), Kelsey MacSorley (Stratford, Ontario), Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba), Tori Pasquariello (Mississauga, Ontario) and Audra Richards (Maplewood, Minnesota) were all recognized for the second time in their careers. 

Eve Boissonneault (Sudbury, Ontario), Emilie Brigham (Anoka, Minnesota), Hailey Browne (Oakville, Ontario) Mariah Fujimagari (Markham, Ontario), Karissa Kirkup (Virden, Manitoba), Morgan Sakundiak (Calgary, Alberta) and Jessica Vallotton (Glenboro, Manitoba) were all named to the team for the first time in their careers.
