Ninety-Seven Student-Athletes Graduate on Saturday
Ninety-seven (97) University of Maine Black Bear student-athletes will be participating in graduation this Saturday, May 5 at Alfond Arena in Orono. This group of student-athletes includes those who completed degree requirements in December 2011 and anticipated May 2012, August 2012 and December 2012.

Coach of the Year, All-Star Honors Cap off Fantastic Women's Hockey Season
The University of Maine women’s hockey team wrapped up a fantastic season after being honored at the annual WHEA Championship Awards Banquet. Head coach Maria Lewis earned Hockey East Co-Coach of the Year honors. Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) was named to the WHEA Second Team All-Stars while Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) and Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.) were named WHEA Honorable Mention All-Stars. Coach Lewis is also a finalist for the American Hockey Coaches Association Division I Women’s Ice Hockey Coach of the Year.

Dougherty, Ott, Ward Earn WHEA All-Star Honors
Three members of the University of Maine women’s hockey squad were earned Hockey East All-Star honors today; Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.), Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.), and Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.). Dougherty was named to the WHEA Second Team All-Stars while Ward was named to the WHEA Honorable Mention All-Stars.

Women's Hockey Falls at Providence in Quarterfinals, 6-0
The University of Maine women’s hockey teams’ fantastic 2011-12 campaign came to an end on Saturday against the Providence College Friars in the Women’s Hockey East Quarterfinals, 6-0. The Black Bears finish the season with an overall record of 17-11-6 and a conference record of 11-8-2. The Friars improve to 15-16-4 overall while their conference record remains at 11-8-2. Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.) and Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) each fired eight shots on the day.

The University of Maine women’s hockey team (17-10-6, 11-8-2 WHEA) will travel down to Providence, R.I. to take on the Providence College Friars (14-16-4, 11-8-2 WHEA) in a Hockey East Quarterfinal match up. The game will take place on Saturday and has a start time of 2 p.m.

Maine Wraps Up Regular Season with 2-1 Win Over UNH on Senior Day
It was a special day at Alfond Arena today as Maine wrapped the regular season with a weekend sweep against New Hampshire, 2-1. After the completion of the game, there was a special on-ice ceremony honoring the six seniors on the team; Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.), Ashley Norum (Fairbanks, Alaska), Myriam Croussette (Baie-Comeau, Quebec), Melissa Gagnon (St. Gilles, Quebec), Dominique Goutsis (Coquitlam, British Columbia), and Dawn Sullivan (Enfield, Nova Scotia). The players were met on the ice by their families and recognized for their dedication to the program.

Maine Rallies in Third Period, Ward Lifts Black Bears in OT, 4-3
Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.) scored her 14th goal of the year just 3:23 into overtime to lift the Black Bears over New Hampshire in overtime, 4-3. Maine battled back from a 3-0 deficit with three goals in the third period to secure their record setting 10th Hockey East victory, beating the previous mark of nine. Maine now improves to 16-10-6 on the season and to 10-8-2 in conference action while the Wildcats fall to 10-20-3 overall and to 4-14-2 in Hockey East play. Tallying goals for the Black Bears were Missy Denk (Poplar Grove, Ill.), Kayla Kaluzny (Calgary, Alberta), Dawn Sullivan (Enfield, Nova Scotia) and Danielle Ward.

Brittany Ott makes 44 Saves as Maine Falls at Northeastern, 3-1
The University of Maine women’s hockey team fell to Northeastern by a score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. The loss puts The Black Bears at 15-10-6 overall and 9-8-2 in Hockey East play while Northeastern improves to 21-6-3 overall and 14-3-2 in Hockey East play. Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) tallied her 16th goal of the season for the Black Bears while netminder Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) made 44 saves.

Women's Hockey Falls at Northeastern, 4-0
The University of Maine women’s hockey team fell to Northeastern this afternoon, 4-0. The loss halts the Black Bears six-game unbeaten streak and puts their record at 15-9-6 overall and 9-7-2 in Hockey East play while Northeastern improves to 20-6-3 overall and 13-3-2 in Hockey East. Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) made 26 saves on the game, surpassing 2,000 for her career and bringing her new total to 2,012.

Women's Hockey Travels to Take on #7 Northeastern
The University of Maine women’s hockey team (15-8-6, 9-6-2 WHEA) will travel to Boston to take on No. 7 Northeastern (19-6-3, 12-3-2 WHEA) for a two-game series. The Black Bears have already clinched a playoff berth, posting their best mark in conference play since the 2005-06 season. The University of Maine women’s hockey team shutout the University of Vermont by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. The win puts the Black Bears at 15-8-6 on the season and 9-6-2 in conference play. The nine wins in conference play ties the most conference wins in Black Bear history. Vermont falls to 4-18-6 on the season and 3-12-2 in conference play. The University of Maine women’s hockey team skated to victory on Saturday afternoon against the University of Vermont, 4-1. The win improves Maine’s record to 14-8-6 overall and to 8-6-2 in conference action. Vermont falls to 4-17-6 overall and 3-11-2 in conference play. Tori Pasquariello (Mississauga, Ontario) found the back of the net twice for Maine while Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) and Danielle Ward each score a goal. All four goals for the Black Bears came in the third period.

Maine Honors Scholar-Athletes for Academic Achievement
ORONO, Maine--The University of Maine announced on Wednesday that 243 student-athletes will be honored and recognized for their success in the classroom at the Scholar-Athlete Recognition ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012. One-hundred seventy five student-athletes will be recognized as Scholar-Athletes for achieving a 3.0 or better grade point average for the 2011 year and/or having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Sixty-eight first-year student-athletes will also be honored as *Rising Stars* for earning a 3.0 or better in their first semester at Maine. The Scholar-Athletes and *Rising Stars* total 243, over half of the student-athletes at the University of Maine.

The decision gives the Black Bears a record of 12-8-6 on the season and 6-6-2 in Hockey East play. The Huskies record now stands at 3-15-7 overall and 2-7-3 in conference play. Women's Hockey Hosts Providence for Annual Skating Strides Event Sunday at Noon
The University of Maine women’s hockey team will host Providence College for the Sixth Annual Hockey East Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer event. The game is set to take place on Sunday, January 22, at Noon instead of the original start time of 3 p.m. The team will also play host to the University of Connecticut on Friday, January 20, at 2 p.m.

Women's Hockey Takes Three of Four Weekly Hockey East Awards
The University of Maine women’s hockey team received three of the four weekly awards, including Defensive Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, and Team of the Week, as given by Hockey East. Jennifer More (Deloraine, Manitoba) was awarded the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week title after a three-point performance on Sunday against Boston University. More scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season, one on a power play, and assisted on another goal.

Brittany Dougherty Selected to Attend USA Hockey Winter Camp
USA Hockey has announced their active pool for the 2011 Winter Training Camp that will run from December 26-31. Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) has been selected to attend will represent the University of Maine Black Bears at the camp. The six-day camp will take place at the National Sports Center’s Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota.

Black Bear goalie Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) excelled between the pipes as she stopped 46 of the 47 shots she faced during the game.

ORONO, Maine--University of Maine women’s hockey goalie Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) has earned the WHEA Defensive Player of the Week for the Black Bears. Ott helped Maine pick up wins on the road at Vermont and New Hampshire. She saved 55 of the 57 shots she faced for a .965 save percentage, including a 32 save shutout performance against New Hampshire.

ORONO, Maine--The University of Maine women’s ice hockey team ended their two game series against Brown University in a 0-0 draw. With the tie, the Black Bears now have a record of 7-5-4 while their Hockey East record remains at 2-3-1. Brown’s record is now 2-2-5, and still maintain a 1-2-3 record in ECAC action. Black Bear goalie Kylie Smith (Apple Valley, Minn.) earned her first career shutout, making 23 saves. Brown goalie Katie Jamieson stopped the 31 shots she faced.

The first game will be Friday, November 18, at 7:00 p.m., while the second game will be Saturday, November 19 at 3:00 p.m. This will be the first time the teams will face each other since the 2004-05 season.

Tori Pasquariello Earns Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week
The University of Maine’s Tori Pasquariello (Mississauga, Ontario) was awarded the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week Award by the Hockey East. Pasquariello’s game winning goal in game one against Niagara University helped secure a win over the Purple Eagles. Her two goals in Sunday’s game two helped the Black Bears skate to a 3-3 draw, giving the Black Bears a 1-0-1 record for the weekend.

Nikola Tomigova to Represent Czech Republic National Team in IIHF Tournament
While the University of Maine women’s ice hockey team is getting ready to host Niagara University for a weekend series, one Black Bear will be playing at a different venue just a little further away. Nikola Tomigová (Smrzice, Czech Republic) will be competing with the Czech Republic women’s national team in the IIHF 12 Nations Invitational Tournament Series. The tournament is taking place in Füssen, Germany where the team will face Russia, Switzerland, Slovakia, and Japan.

WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- University of Maine women's ice hockey player Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.) was named the Hockey East Co-Player of the Week on Monday. She scored three goals in Maine's weekend sweep of then #9 Quinnipiac. Maine also earned Team of the Week honors for its sweep over the Bobcats.

Women's Hockey Comes from Behind to Defeat Quinnipiac and Improve to 4-0-0 on Season
Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.) scored 2:32 into overtime to give the Maine women's ice hockey team a 5-4 victory over Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon. Maine sweeps the two-game weekend series and improves to 4-0-0 on the season with the victory, the best start in prorgram history. Quinnipiac, ranked ninth in the latest poll, falls to 1-3-0.

Women's Hockey Knocks Off #9 Quinnipiac, 4-3
Despite trailing 3-0 just seconds into the second period of play to #9 Quinnipiac, the Black Bears would show no quit, fighting back to tie the score just 30 seconds into the third period of play. Missy Denk (Poplar Grove, Ill.) would then tally the eventual game-winner 2:17 into the third period to give the Black Bears a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Bobcats of Quinnipiac.

Women’s Hockey East Association Honors League All-Academic Team
The Women’s Hockey East Association has announced that 16 members of the University of Maine women’s ice hockey team have been named to the 2010-11 WHEA All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete achieved a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during which she was actively competing. Out of the eight teams that make up the WHEA, the Black Bears led the way with 16 student-athletes honored on this year’s squad.

Vermont Shuts down Black Bear Attack
Coming into Friday night's contest, Maine was one of the WHEA's most feared offensive teams ranking fifth in the conference in scoring and third in the conference in power play scoring. Maine Honors Scholar-Athletes for Academic Achievement
he University of Maine announced on Wednesday that 239 student-athletes will be honored and recognized for their success in the classroom at the Scholar-Athlete Recognition ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011. One-hundred seventy four student-athletes will be recognized as Scholar-Athletes for achieving a 3.0 or better grade point average for the 2010 year and/or having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Sixty-five first-year student-athletes will also be honored as *Rising Stars* for earning a 3.0 or better in their first semester at Maine. The Scholar-Athletes and *Rising Stars* total 239, over half of the student-athletes at the University of Maine.

UNH Holds Off Black Bear Sweep
Following Saturday afternoon's historic win at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H., Maine was denied in their second straight upset bid of rival, New Hampshire. The University of Maine was again, led by Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.), who scored two goals for the Black Bears for the second straight game. However, Ward's efforts would not be enough, as the Wildcats were able to rely on a play maker of their own. Kristina Lavoie paced New Hampshire with a career high three points including a goal of her own and two assists.

Women's Ice Hockey Raising Money for Breast Cancer Research; Selling Pink Pucks
The University of Maine women’s ice hockey team is working to raise money for Breast Cancer Research in unique fashion. The Black Bears have been selling pink pucks at many of the University of Maine home athletic events throughout much of the month of December. The pucks can be purchased with a minimum donation of $1. People may write their name on the puck they purchased and a member of the team will hang the puck up in front of the Women’s Ice Hockey office in the hallway outside of Alfond Family Lounge.

Black Bears Take Series Against Sacred Heart with 11-0 Win
The University of Maine womens ice hockey team moved to 2-0-0 to start the season as they picked up a 11-0 victory over visiting Sacred Heart Saturday afternoon. It was a day of firsts for Maine as several first year players scored their first goals as a Black Bear. Sacred Heart falls to 0-2-0 with the loss.

Women's Hockey Wins Season Opener, 7-0
The University of Maine women's ice hockey team opened the 2010-11 season in impressive fashion, downing Sacred Heart by a score of 7-0 Friday night. Senior Jennie Gallo (Castlegar, British Columbia) scored a pair of goals for Maine in the win while Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) picked up a goal and two assists. Sophomore goaltender Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) picked up her third career shutout with the win as Maine moves to 1-0-0 on the season. The Pioneers fall to 0-1-0 on the season with the loss.

Women's Ice Hockey Announces 2010-11 Schedule
ORONO, Maine Head women's ice hockey coach Maria Lewis announced the 2010-11 schedule. The Black Bears open the season with a six-game homestand. The season opener is scheduled for September 24th at 7 p.m. against Sacred Heart. The homestand wraps up with two games against Quinnipiac on October 15th and 16th.

Maine Names Maria Lewis Head Coach
University of Maine Director of Athletics Blake James announced today that Maria Lewis has been named head womens ice hockey coach. Lewis comes to the University of Maine after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of North Dakota, and is known as being a top recruiter. She served as a volunteer assistant with the Black Bears for the 1999-2000 season.

Hockey East Announces Women's All-Academic Team
The University of Maine womens ice hockey team placed 12 student-athletes on the 200910 Hockey East All-Academic Team released on Monday, June 14, 2010. The 12 student-athletes were second most in the league. Abby Barton (Woodstock, New Brunswick), Jenna Ouellette (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Amy Stech (Duluth, Minn.) were all named Distinguished Scholars, for achieving a 3.0 in each semester over four years.

University of Maine women's ice hockey senior Jenna Ouellette (Winnipeg, Manitoba) will continue her playing career next year in Switzerland. She recently signed a professional contract to play in Langethal, Switzerland.

Women's Ice Hockey Announces 2010-2011 Commitments
University of Maine women's ice hockey coach Dan Lichterman has announced that his program has received six commitments for the 2010-2011 season. Forwards Missy Denk (Poplar Grove, Ill.), Kristi King (Lake Elmo, Minn.), Jenny Kistner (Peoria, Ill.), defenders Courtney Hillman (Shell Lake, Saskatchewan) and Kelly McDonald (Ancaster, Ontario) along with Kayla Kaluzny (Calgary, Alberta), who can play both forward and defense, will join the Black Bears for the upcoming season.

Women's Ice Hockey to Host Texas Hold'Em Tournament, Wing Night
The University of Maine women's ice hockey team will be hosting a pair of fundraising events in the next few weeks. An all-you-can-eat wing night will take place at Acme Pizza on April 1st from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The Black Bears will then host a Texas Hold `Em poker tournament on Thursday, April 15th at 5 p.m. in Alfond Arena.

Brittany Ott Honored to 2009-2010 WHEA All-Rookie Team
WAKEFIELD, MASS -- University of Maine freshman goaltender Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) has been named to the Women's Hockey East Association All-Rookie team, as announced by the WHEA today. Ott finished the season with a 4-12-3 record, 3-9-2 in WHEA play, making 558 saves for a .918 save percentage to go along with a 2.60 goals against average.

Black Bears Fall to Boston University in Season Finale
The University of Maine women's ice hockey team fell in their last game of the 2009-2010 season to the Boston University Terriers by a score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Black Bears finish the season 6-20-5 and 3-15-3-1 in Women's Hockey East action. The win moves the Terriers to 14-8-12 overall and 10-6-5-3 in WHE play.
