Maine Honors Scholar-Athletes for Academic Achievement February 1, 2012 ORONO, Maine--The University of Maine announced on Wednesday that 243 student-athletes will be honored and recognized for their success in the classroom at the Scholar-Athlete Recognition ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012. One-hundred seventy five student-athletes will be recognized as Scholar-Athletes for achieving a 3.0 or better grade point average for the 2011 year and/or having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Sixty-eight first-year student-athletes will also be honored as *Rising Stars* for earning a 3.0 or better in their first semester at Maine. The Scholar-Athletes and *Rising Stars* total 243, over half of the student-athletes at the University of Maine.

The win improves Maine’s record to 13-8-6 on the season and 7-6-2 in Hockey East play while Providence’s record falls to 9-15-3 overall and 6-7-1 in conference action. Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario), Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) and Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.) each tallied goals for the Black Bears.

Women's Hockey Skates to a Draw against Connecticut, 1-1 January 20, 2012 ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women’s hockey team skated to a 1-1 draw against the University of Connecticut, Friday afternoon. The decision gives the Black Bears a record of 12-8-6 on the season and 6-6-2 in Hockey East play. The Huskies record now stands at 3-15-7 overall and 2-7-3 in conference play. Dominique Goutsis (Coquitlam, British Columbia) found the back of the net for the Black Bears while netminder Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) made 25 saves on 26 shots she faced.

Women's Hockey Hosts Providence for Annual Skating Strides Event Sunday at Noon January 19, 2012 The University of Maine women’s hockey team will host Providence College for the Sixth Annual Hockey East Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer event. The game is set to take place on Sunday, January 22, at Noon instead of the original start time of 3 p.m. The team will also play host to the University of Connecticut on Friday, January 20, at 2 p.m.
