Women's Soccer Falls at Vermont 3-1
BURLINGTON, Vt.-- The University of Maine women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Vermont on Thursday afternoon in Burlington, Vt. Nikki Misener (Burlington, Ontario) scored the lone goal of the game for the Black Bears in the 82nd minute.
Maine falls to 3-6-1 on the season and 0-3-0 in America East play. Vermont improves to 4-6-4 on the campaign, 2-1-1 in conference play.
Vermont took a 1-0 lead at 22:27 when Kerry Glynn chipped the ball to Midori Eckenstein. Eckenstein lofted the ball over the head of Maine goalie Meagan Price-Leibenzeder (Surrey, British Columbia). The Catamounts extended their lead to 2-0 when Alexandra Dezenzo scored her fourth goal of the season. Megan Rozumalski got a pass through the Maine defense and to Dezenzo, who beat Price-Leibenzeder at 26:28.
Dezenzo scored her second of the game at 63:37. She received a thru pass from Glynn and found the right corner of the net to give the Catamounts a 3-0 advantage.
Maine got on the scoreboard when Jordan Pellerin (Waterville, Maine) placed the ball in the box with a cross. Misener was able to one-time the ball past Vermont keeper Sarah Leiby. For Misener, the goal was the first of her career.
Vermont finished with a slim 11-10 edge in shot in the game. Maine keeper Price-Leibenzeder made a pair of saves. She falls to 3-6-1 on the season. Leiby made two saves for Vermont. She improves to 4-5-4 on the season.
Maine returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 9 when it hosts UMBC at 12 noon at Alumni Field.
