Women's Soccer Defeats South Carolina State in Overtime 1-0

Nikki Misener (Burlington, Ontario) scored the game-winning goal near the end of the first overtime as the University of Maine women's soccer team defeated South Carolina State University of Friday night in the first game of the Bulldog/Sleep Inn Classic. 

The two teams played through 90 scoreless minutes of regulation before Misener was able to capitalize with the game-winner at 104:07. It was her second goal of the season for the Black Bears. 

Lauren Swant (Oakville, Ontario) got the start in net for the Black Bears. She made seven saves to record her first collegiate shutout. Swant improves to 2-0-0 on the season. 

Danielle Murphy and Mariah Hebbe split time in net for the Bulldogs. Murphy made one save in 45:10, while Hebbe made a pair in 58:57. Hebbe allowed the game-winning goal and picked up the loss. 

Maine outshot South Carolina State 14-11 in the game. The Black Bears were awarded five corner kicks to South Carolina State's two. 

Maine evens its record to 2-2 on the season with the victory over the Bulldogs. 

Maine will now host Francis Marion on Sunday morning at 11 AM.
