Maine Defeats Francis Marion; 2-0 in Sleep Inn Bulldog Classic

Orangeburg, SC – The University of Maine women's soccer team took a 1-0 win over Francis Marion this afternoon in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The Black Bears improve to 3-2 off the foot of Maddie Hill (Brampton, Ontario).

Hill scored the lone goal of the game this afternoon to propel the Black Bears past the Patriots, this goal marking the first on the season for the senior midfielder. The goal came at the 11-minute mark off the assist by Nikki Misener (Burlington, Ontario) and Maggie Malone (Halifax, Nova Scotia).

Lauren Swant (Oakville, Ontario) anchored the Black Bears in goal with two saves in the contest. Swant improves to 2-1-0 on the season with a .840 save percentage on 21 saves and 4 goals against.

Taylor O'Berry played the entire game for the Patriots, allowing one goal on eight saves; she falls to 2-1-1 on the season.

The two teams played through a scoreless second half with the Black Bears holding a 16-4 edge over the Patriots in shots. Maine was awarded five corner kicks to Francis Marion's three.

Maine returns to action on September 7th when they host Dartmouth at Alumni Field in Orono, Maine. Game time is slated for 3:00 PM.
