BALTIMORE, MD-- The University of Maine women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw with UMBC on Sunday afternoon in Baltimore, Md. Maine sees its record move to 5-4-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in America East Conference play. UMBC moves to 1-8-3 overall, 0-2-1 in conference play.
UMBC grabbed a 1-0 lead at 26:43 when Rachel McKee beat Maine goalie Lauren Swant (Oakville, Ontario) with a penalty kick.
Maine tied the game just before half, with a goal at 44:59 from Charlene Achille (Longueuil, Quebec). For Achille, it was her first collegiate goal. She picked up an assist from Eve L'Abbe (Laval, Quebec).
Neither team found the back of the net during the second half or during either of the 10-minute overtime periods and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Maine outshot UMBC 18-15 in the game.
Swant made four saves in goal for the Black Bears. Lauren Kadet made seven saves for UBC.
The Black Bears return to action on Thursday, Oct. 4 when they host Hartford at 3 PM at Alumni Field in Orono, Maine.
