Black Bears Fall to the Hawks

Orono, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Hartford this afternoon. The Black Bears fall to 5-5-2 (1-2-1) on the season, while Hartford improves to 8-2-3 (4-0-0).

Sidney Spremullo gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead at 21:59 with a shot that sailed over the outstretched Lauren Swant (Oakville, Ontario). The assist would come off the foot of Amelia Pereira. Caroline Dixon would push the lead to 2-0 at the 39-minute mark with a header from Pereira.

The third and final goal of the game would come mid way through the second half by a Pereira strike that found the back of the net. Arielle Aikens would pass the ball through the box for the assist.

Charlene Achille (Longueuil, Quebec) and Eve L'Abbe (Laval, Quebec) would each tally four shots in the game with three of the shots on target.

Swant allowed three goals against while saving five shots. She sees her record fall to 5-4-2 on the season thus far. Erin Quinlan played all 90 minutes for the Hawks where she would see her record improve to 8-2-3 with 10 saves on the afternoon.

Maine held a 15 to 13 shot advantage over Hartford.

Maine will return to action on Sunday, October 7 when it travels to Binghamton for a 12:00 PM conference match.
