Achille Invited to National Team Developmental Camp
Orono, Maine – University of Maine women's soccer player Charlene Achille (Longueuil, Quebec) has been invited to take part in a seven day training camp in Tampa Bay, Fla. A developmental squad of potential Canada's Women's National Team players will take part in the programs first EXCELeration camp beginning on February 8, 2013.
The EXCELeration program has been put into place by the Canadian coaching staff to help bridge the gap from the U-20 level to the senior program. The developmental camps are intended to provide additional coaching for university-based players looking to make the transition to a higher level of competition.
Scott Atherley stated, "This is great opportunity for Charlene. The camp will serve as a forum to compete with and against other elite college age, National Team prospects. Such an experience will afford Charlene the chance to gain valuable insight and appreciation relative to her progress, and future development as a player". We wish her an enjoyable week, and know that she will perform exceptionally well".
Charlene was named to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women All-Northeast Region Third Team. She was the lone Black Bear selected to the team and one of just seven student-athletes from America East named to one of the three teams. Achille was also named the 2012 America East Rookie of the Year as well as named to the America East Second Team and the America East All-Rookie squad.
Achille scored two goals and tallied three assists for seven points on the season. She helped lead Maine to a 7-7-3 mark.
