Achille Heading to U-20 Team Canada National Excel Camp
Orono, Maine – University of Maine women's soccer player Charlene Achille (Longueuil, Quebec) has made the roster for the Team Canada U-20 National Excel camp. The National Excel camp will take place from March 16-25 in Portland, Oregon.
Andrew Olivieri, Head Coach for the U-20 Canadian National Team and for the upcoming Women's National Excel camp stated, "Our on-field work towards the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Canada 2014 starts right here." The camp will feature players from the 1994-1996 age group and they will play a friendly match against the University of Portland on March 22.
Black Bears head coach, Scott Atherley had this to say, "This is another great opportunity for Charlene. Her performance at EXCELeration camp in February led to her being selected for this camp. The Portland, Oregon camp marks beginning preparations for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Canada 2014. With continued development and consistent performances, Charlene should have a realistic chance of making this team."
Charlene was named to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women All-Northeast Region Third Team. She was the lone Black Bear selected to the team and one of just seven student-athletes from America East named to one of the three teams. Achille was also named the 2012 America East Rookie of the Year as well as named to the America East Second Team and the America East All-Rookie squad.
Achille scored two goals and tallied three assists for seven points on the season. She helped lead Maine to a 7-7-3 mark.
