Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw at Northeastern
BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The University of Maine women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie at Northeastern on Friday night. It was the third straight double overtime tie for the Black Bears. Maine moves to 3-2-3 on the season with the draw.
The two teams played a scoreless first half with the Huskies holding a 6-2 edge in shots.
Maine broke the scoreless tie at 73:57 when Nikki Misener (Burlington, Ontario) played the ball up the field, before kicking it into the box. Jordan Pellerin (Waterville, Maine) was able to get a foot on the ball and kick it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Northeastern, however, tied the game just under eight minutes later. Morgan Hilby beat Maine keeper Claudia Dube-Trempe (Chambly, Quebec), who was making her collegiate debut in the game.
Neither team would find the back of the net the remainder of the game, despite both teams having opportunities.
Northeastern finished the game with a 12-6 advantage in shots. Dube-Trempe stopped four shots in the game and moves to 0-0-1 on the season. Page Burnett recorded a pair of saves for the Huskies.
Charlene Achille (Longueuil, Quebec) led the Black Bears with three shots, including a pair on goal.
Maine returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 22 when it travesl to Dartmouth for a game against the Big Green. Kick off is set for 1 PM.
