ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's soccer team kicks off the 2014 season this week with a pair of games. The Black Bears host Quinnipiac on Friday, Aug. 22 at 4 PM and Bryant on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 1 PM at Alumni Field in Orono.
Friday will be high school day. High school teams are encouraged to come on out and watch the Black Bears and they face Quinnipiac in the 2014 opener.
Sunday is club soccer day. Teams are invited to join the Black Bears on Sunday in a game that will feature halftime prizes, a free post-game clinic and autograph opportunities with your favorite Black Bears!
Maine is initiating the first ever Black Bear youth escort program where Maine youth teams will have the opportunity to take part in the pre-game activities with the University of Maine team. The team is inviting all youth teams (ages U13 and under) to participate as special guests in the pre-game announcements and introductions for fall 2014 home games. Guest teams will escort both the home and visiting teams onto the field during pre-game introductions and the national anthem. Their club affiliations will be announced during the match and players will be able to participate in halftime exhibition scrimmages and activities. Youth escort teams will also have the opportunity to interact with Black Bear players post-game for autographs and photos.
