FAIRFIELD, Connecticut -- The University of Maine women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at Fairfield on Friday night. Maine falls to 1-2-0 on the season, while Fairfield improves to 2-1-0. Charlene Achille (Longueuil, Quebec) tallied Maine's lone goal.
The two teams played through a scoreless first half. Fairfield broke the deadlock at 59:09 when Molly Moran fed Cassidy Boegel. Her shot from the right of the box beat Maine keeper Claudia Dube-Trempe (Chambly, Quebec).
Maine answered back, less than 10 minutes later. Fairfield keeper Kathleen Early was unable to control the ball off a shot and Achille fired the ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
The game remained 1-1 until Brenna Brown won it in overtime for the Stags. She dribbled up the right side and had her shot from 10-yards out beat Maine keeper Lauren Swant (Oakville, Ontario), who had replaced Dube-Trempe at the start of overtime.
Fairfield outshot Maine 20-11 in the game. Dube-Trempe had seven saves, while Swant finished with one. Swant suffers the loss and falls to 0-1-0.
Maine returns to action in Sunday, Aug. 31 when it faces Fordham at 1 PM.
