Softball Drops Game Two to Oregon St.

FULLERTON, Calif. -- The University of Maine softball squad (1-6) dropped game two of its doubleheader with Oregon St. (13-4) by a score of 13-0 on Monday evening. EmJ Fogel (Vienna, Va.) and Brynne Davis (Winslow, Maine) each doubled for the Black Bears.

After Maine recorded the first two outs in the top of the first, Elizabeth Santana reached on and error before Desiree Beltran belted a homer to left center to give Oregon State a 2-0 advantage. Mary Claire Brenner added a solo shot in the top of the second to extend the Beavers' lead to 3-0.

Oregon State added to its lead with a pair in the top of the third. Hannah Bouska led off the inning with a triple before Santana ripped a homer to left to give the Beavers a 5-0 lead.

Maine looked to get something started in the top of the fourth as Davis ripped a two-out double into left field. However, Oregon State would strand her at second.

The Beavers broke things open with an eight run top of the fifth inning fueled by a three-run homer by Paige Hall.

Maine was unable to chip away at the score in the bottom of the inning, dropping the contest 13-0 to the Beavers.

Kylie Sparks (Kirkland, Wash.) falls to 0-3 with the loss as she went three innings while giving up five runs, three earned, on six hits and two walks. Beth Spoehr (Appleton, Wis.) went two innings and gave up three runs, two earned, on three hits and a walk. Danielle Sullivan (Canyon Country, Calif.) saw her first action in the circle as she gave up five runs, two earned, on two hits and two walks.

Aryn Feickert moves to 1-0 with the win for the Beavers as she went five innings while giving up two hits and fanning four.

Maine returns to action with a contest against Cal State Fullerton tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. EST.
