Softball Ends in 1-1 Tie at Stony Brook Due to Rain

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The University of Maine softball team had its game with Stony Brook called in the top of the eighth inning with the score tied 1-1 due to rain. Jennifer Eberhardt (Glendale, Ariz.) scored the lone Black Bear run as she homered in the top of the first inning while Ashley Kelley (Hermon, Maine) pitched well in the circle for Maine as the senior went seven innings while scattering eight hits and giving up just one run with one strikeout.

The Black Bears started the scoring early as Eberhardt put Maine on top in the top of the first when she belted her second home run of the season. With two away in the inning, Eberhardt stepped in and stroked a homer over the right center field fence to give Maine an early 1-0 lead.

Stony Brook knotted things up with a run in the bottom of the second. Nicole Hagerty started the Seawolves' rally with a one out double to right center. Lauren Kamachi followed with a single up the middle which allowed Hagerty to come around from second and score the game tying run.

The game would remain tied through the first seven innings before the rain came and washed things away in the top of the eighth as the game was ruled a 1-1 tie.

The Black Bears return to action on Wednesday, April 25 when they step out of conference play to host St. Joseph's of Maine at 4 p.m. before returning to America East action with a three-game weekend series at Kessock Field with UMBC beginning on Saturday at 12 p.m.
