Softball Drops Contest with Western Michigan, 4-0
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The University of Maine softball squad fell to Western Michigan by a score of 4-0 on Monday afternoon. Kristen Koslosky (Castro Valley, Calif.) recorded the lone hit for the Black Bears while Beth Spoehr (Appleton, Wis.) struck out four.
The Broncos opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third on Sabrina Gamboa's two-run homer.
Western Michigan tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth innings, extending its lead to 4-0. Maine was unable to plate any runs in the top of the seventh.
Spoehr went the distance in the circle for the Black Bears as she gave up four runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out four.
Becca Shemberger picked up the win for the Broncos as she went the distance while giving up one hit and striking out 10.
Maine returns to action on Wednesday, March 6 when it meets Toledo at 1 PM.
