Softball Drops Pair with Tenn. Tech and Youngstown State

TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of Maine softball squad dropped a pair of contests on Friday afternoon. The Black Bears fell in game one to Tennessee Tech 4-1 before dropping a 10-4 decision to Youngstown State. EmJ Fogel (Vienna, Va.) went 4-for-8 with a RBI on the day while Kristen Koslosky (Castro Valley, Calif.) with a run scored and a RBI.

In game one, the Black Bears took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. Stephanie Wood (Florence, N.J.) led off the inning with a double down the line in left. Koslosky followed with a one out single to the pitcher, advancing Wood to third. Wood was able to score later on an errant throw from the catcher.

The Golden Eagles responded with answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead.

Maine kept battling but single runs from Tenn. Tech in the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the six gave it a 4-1 lead it would not relinquish.

Kylie Sparks (Kirkland, Wash.) went six innings for Maine in the circle while giving up four runs, two earned on eight hits with one strikeout.

Maine and the Golden Eagles each had eight hits and two errors.

In game two, after falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first, Hilary Kane (Concord, N.H.) singled down the right field line for the RBI in the bottom of the first. Jessica Burke (Warrenton, Va.) advanced to third on the at bat while Koslosky crossed the plate.

The Penguins added a run in both the second and third inning while also bringing three more across in the fifth. Castiglione reached on a fielder's choice in the second, which brought Troxell in for the 4-1 lead. Ingalls added to the lead after a single to left field that brought Stowe home. Ingalls picked up another pair of RBI's, doubling to center field. Troxell ended the scoring summary as she reached on a fielding error by the Black Bear pitcher, Macey scored from third on the error.

Koslosky reached first on a fielder's choice, snagging the RBI as Stephanie Wood (Florence, N.J.) advanced to second and Makaila Kowalsky (Colchester, Conn.) scored from third. EmJ Fogel (Vienna, Va.) added to the Black Bear scoring on the very next at bat, singling to center field. Wood scored on the single while Koslosky advanced to third.

Youngstown State added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Kane finished the Black Bear scoring with a single down the right field line, scoring Koslosky and advancing Burk to third.

Youngstown State finished the day with 13 hits while Maine ended with nine. The Penguins forced the Black Bears to commit three errors while committing two of their own.

Maine returns to action March 9, 2013 as they take on SIUE at 2:30 P.M. and Penn State at 7:00 P.M.
