Softball Drops Contest with Valparaiso, 3-0

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The University of Maine softball squad dropped a 3-0 decision to Valparaiso in its first game on Wednesday afternoon. Makaila Kowalsky (Colchester, Conn.) and Jessica Burk (Warrenton, Va.) each recorded hits for the Black Bears.

The Crusaders three runs all game in the bottom of the second beginning with Lindsey Norway driving in a run with a one out fielder's choice. Kaitlyn Ranieri followed with a ground out to third which allowed Jessie Marinec to score. Doerffler ended the scoring with a RBI double to left center.

Alexis Bogdanovich (South Portland, Maine) went the distance for the Black Bears in the circle as she gave up three runs on seven hits with one strikeout.

Maine returns to action in game two of today's doubleheader when it faces Florida Gulf Coast at 4:45 PM.
