ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine softball team is giving local softball players a variety of chances to improve their skills this winter as the team will be offering several winter clinics beginning in January and running into April.
Softball will offer its winter skills clinic starting on Jan. 12. The clinic, hosted by coaches Lynn and Mike Coutts, will be held inside the Mahaney Dome. Each clinic is divided into two hitting sessions, two pitching sessions and one fielding session. A new skill will be introdcued each week. Maine's winter clinic and games will be held on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday beginning on Feb. 27 and running through March 16. Sessions will include instruction from the University of Maine staff and its players. Each clinic session will be broken up into two sections to allow for instruction and game skills and utilization of the concepts taught in the instruction section. The staff and players will instruct participants for 30 minutes and then a 90 minute game will be played utilizing the skills learned.

On Saturday, April 5, the Black Bears invite any softball players and/or their teams to join them on campus for a highs chool softball cinic and game. This is a chance to see live pitching, work on defense and build team chemistry prior to the start of the season.
