Softball Announces 2014 Schedule
ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine head softball coach Lynn Coutts has announced the 2014 Black Bears' softball schedule. Maine will take part in the Charleston Southern Tournament as well as the South Florida Under Armour Tournament before a regular schedule of America East foes.
Maine opens the 2014 season on Feb. 14 when it faces St. Bonaventure on day one of the Charleston Southern Tournament. The Black Bears close out the opening day with a contest against Jacksonville State. Maine faces host Charleston Southern on Feb. 15 before getting into tournament action later that day, with the seedings yet to be announced.
For the second-straight year, the Black Bears will compete in Clearwater and Tampa, Fla. as members of the University of South Florida Under Armour Tournament. Maine opens up its Florida slate with a game against Loyola Marymount on March 3. The Black Bears will meet Western Michigan on March 4 before playing host South Florida at 2 PM on the 4th.
Maine will play its remaining 13 games of the USF Under Armour Tournament at the Eddie C. Moore Complex, beginning with a doubleheader against Cleveland State on March 6. The Black Bears meet St. Joseph's (Pa.) on March 7 before closing out the night against Long Island University. Maine plays its third doubleheader in three days on March 8 when it meets Quinnipiac and Toledo. Maine closes out the first week of the tournament with a single game against Seton Hall on March 9.
The Black Bears have an interesting game on March 12 when they meet the Netherlands at 5 PM. Another single game follows on March 13 when Maine meets Penn before a doubleheader on March 14 with Miami (Oh.) and former America East member Boston University. The Black Bears face Providence and Central Michigan on March 15 before closing out the Florida slate against Buffalo on March 16.
Maine opens America East action with a doubleheader at Hartford on March 22 before closing the series with a single game on March 23.
The Black Bears open at home on March 29 when they welcome new America East member UMass Lowell for a three-game weekend series. Maine dips out of conference play on March 31 when it travels for a single game at Massachusetts.
Maine returns to conference action on April 5 when it travels to Albany for a doubleheader before meeting the Great Danes for a single game on April 6.
The Black Bears host UMBC the following weekend for a three-game home set before hosting Husson on April 15 and traveling to Harvard for a doubleheader on April 17.
Defending America East champion Stony Brook hosts the Black Bears for a three-game weekend series beginning on April 19 before Maine closes out conference play with a home series against Binghamton starting on April 26.
Maine will close out the season with a single game at Boston College on May 1 before traveling to Bryant for a doubleheader on May 2.
The 2014 America East tournament will be held on May 8-11 at the site of the highest seed.
