ORONO, Maine -- University of Maine softball student-athletes Jessica Burk (Warrenton, Va.) and Rachel Harvey (Southington, Conn.) have each earned America East softball weekly awards, as announced by the league on Monday. Burk has been named the America East Player of the Week while Harvey earned the league's Rookie of the Week honor.
Burk led the Black Bears' softball team to a pair of wins at Hartford. The junior right fielder led the team on offense as she hit .583 (7-for-12) with two doubles to go along with four RBI and four runs scored. Burk's best game of the weekend was game two in which she went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. Burk went 2-for-5 in the series finale with a pair of RBI and two more runs.
Harvey, a freshman catcher, earned the rookie of the week nod after hitting.571 (4-for-7) in a pair of games over the weekend. Harvey went 2-for-3, including her first career home run, with one run and one RBI in Maine's victory on Saturday. Harvey followed up her performance by helping lead Maine to its series victory cliniching win on Sunday after going 2-for-4 with four RBI a double, a run scored and a walk.
