ORONO, Maine -- A pair of University of Maine softball standouts have been named to the 2014 Division I All-Northeast Region teams, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday, May 15. Jessica Burk (Warrenton, Va.) received second team all-region honors while EmJ Fogel (Vienna, Va.) was honored to the third team.
Burk, who was earlier named to the America East All-Conference first team, ranked third in the league in hitting at .384. Maine's right fielder led the Black Bears in hits (43), RBI (20) and total bases (61). Burk produced a .545 slugging percentage after belting a team-high four home runs to go along with six doubles and 19 runs scored. In league play, Burk batted .411 (23-56), with 14 RBI in 17 games. Burk, a former America East all-rookie team selection, led the Black Bears with 11 multiple hit games and six multiple RBI games while also holding a team-high nine-game hit streak at one point.
Fogel, a three-time America East second team honoree, ranked second on the Black Bears with a .307 mark at the plate. Fogel, who spent time behind the plate as well as in centerfield, tallied 35 hits in 114 at-bats while scoring 17 runs and driving in 19. Fogel led Maine in doubles with 10 and had multiple hits in nine games while also adding a six-game hit streak in season.
