Black Bears Sweep Weekly Swimming and Diving Awards
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams, coming off a weekend sweep of Bates College, have now swept the weekly America East swimming and diving awards. Naja Harvey (Orono, Minn.) and Brian Landry (Yorktown, Va.) have each been named swimmers of the week as Kara Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) and Travis Wibby (South Portland, Maine) have earned diver of the week accolades.
Harvey helped the women's team to a 210-90 win over Bates as she tallied a pair of individual wins to go along with two relay victories. Harvey won both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events with times of 1:07.41 and 2:30.56, respectively. Harvey then helped the team to a win in the 200-yard medley relay before also being a part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team who's final time of 1:36.02 set a new school and pool-record.
Landry paced the men's team with two wins and a second place finish individually. The senior co-captain won both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.00) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.83), before taking home a second place finish in the 200-yard IM. Landry was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team.
Capossela swept the diving events on the women's side as she was first in both the one-meter (244.80) and the three-meter (266.02). This is the second diver of the week honor for the sophomore as she was also honored on Nov. 15.
Wibby rounded out the award winning week for the Black Bears as he earned his first ever diver of the week award. Wibby placed second in both the one-meter and three-meter with times of 198.37 and 198.90, respectively.
The Black Bears have some time off before returning to competition on Jan. 14 at Providence College. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
