Day Two of Swimming & Diving ECAC Championships Complete

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The University of Maine swimming and diving teams completed day two of the ECAC Championships on Saturday evening. After two days of competition, the women's team is in seventh place with 144 points while the men are in 15th with 28 points.

Erica Smrcina (North Falmouth, Mass.) won the women's 100-yard butterfly consolation final, placing ninth overall, with a new school-record time of 55.63.

Jenn Trodden (Reading, Mass.) placed fourth overall in the women's 100-yard breaststroke with a final time of 1:05.05.

Matt England (Bangor, Maine), Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.), Cameron Dwyer (Orono, Maine) and Shane Kinnon (Malden, Mass.) placed 10th overall in the men's 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.43.

Becky Idman (Walpole, Mass.) finished 15th in the women's 400-yard IM with a time of 4:49.08. Fahey finished in the men's side of the event with a time of 4:10.09.

Shannon Bender (Cumberland, R.I.) placed 15th in the women's 200-yard freestyle final with a time of 1:54.11. Linn finished 16th in the women's 100-yard breaststroke with a final time of 1:07.58.

Emily Buczkowski (Woolwich, Maine) finished 15th in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.52.

Tayler Bayer (Portage, Ind.), Taylor Sharp (Burlington, Ontario), Kayla Merchant (Sebec, Maine) and Sammy Mathieu (Oakland, Maine) placed sixth in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:54.51.

Kara Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) finished ninth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 217.10.

Prelims:

Jenn Trodden (Reading, Mass.) qualified for the women's finals in the 100-yard breaststroke with a eighth place finish at 1:06.30. Linn was 13th in the event at 1:06.83 while Sammy Mathieu (Oakland, Maine) was 22nd at 1:08.47.

The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Shane Kinnon (Malden, Mass.), Cameron Dwyer (Orono, Maine), Matt England (Bangor, Maine) and Brent Williams (Clifton, Maine) placed 17th with a time of 1:41.02.

Becky Idman (Walpole, Mass.) finished 15th in the 400-yard IM at 4:50.27 while Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.) finished 16th in the men's 400-yard IM at 4:09.73. Williams finished 22nd in the event at 4:17.42.

Smrcina finished ninth in the women's 100-yard fly with a time of 56.86 while Taylor Sharp (Burlington, Ontario) was 18th at 57.73. Lauren Dwyer (Orono, Maine) placed 28th in the event at 59.05. England finished tied for 37th in the men's 100-yard fly at 53.20.

Shannon Bender (Cumerland, R.I.) placed 15th in the women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.48. Carmen Linden (Ottawa, Ontario) finished 24th in the event at 1:57.49 while Katie-Jean Hinckley (Prospect, Conn.) was 40th at 2:01.42.

C. Dwyer finished 46th in the men's 200-yard freestyle event at 1:48.44.

Buczkowski finished 13th in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.50 while Bender finished 22nd at 59.55. Kayla Merchant (Sebec, Maine), Dwyer, Courtney Mellish (Barrie, Ontario) and Emily Puleio (Saco, Maine) placed 28th, 30th, 37th and 38th in the event, respectively. On the men's side, Kinnon placed 28th with a time of 54.05.

The team's close out the ECAC Championships tomorrow beginning at 9:00 AM.
