Swimming and Diving Complete ECAC Championships
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the ECAC Championships on Sunday evening. The women's team placed seventh with 193 points while the men finished in 15th with 39 points.
Jenn Trodden (Reading, Mass.) placed eighth in the women's 100-yard freestyle. Trodden touched the wall at 52.17.
Katie-Jean Hinckley (Prospect, Conn.) placed 15th in the women's 1650-yard freestyle with a distance time of 17:59.21. Tayler Bayer (Portage, Ind.) finished 17th in the event at 18:07.48. Brent Williams (Clifton, Maine) placed 17th in the men's 1650-yard freestyle with a final time of 16:44.69.
Matt England (Bangor, Maine) took 14th in the men's 200-yard backstroke with a consolation final time of 1:52.85.
Abby Linn (Elkhart, Ind.) placed 13th in the women's 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:26.67. Erica Smrcina (North Falmouth, Mass.) took 15th in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:06.14.
In the relay finals, the women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Trodden, Emily Buczkowski (Woolwich, Maine), Shannon Bender (Cumberland, R.I.) and Carmen Linden (Ottawa, Ontario) finished fourth with a time of 3:33.06.
On the men's side in the 400-yard freestyle relay, Shane Kinnon (Malden, Mass.), Cameron Dwyer (Orono, Maine), Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.) and Williams finished 13th with a time of 3:14.83.
Prelims:
Trodden qualified for the finals in the women's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.63. Taylor Sharp (Burlington, Ontario) finished 23rd in the event at 54.15 while Emily Buczkowski (Woolwich, Maine) was 27th at 54.41 followed by Carmen Linden (Ottawa, Ontario) in 28th at 54.49. Emily Puleio (Saco, Maine) was 32nd in the event with a time of 55.01.
Courtney Mellish (Barrie, Ontario) placed 22nd in the women's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.58 while Kayla Merchant (Sebec, Maine) finished 23rd at 2:08.63 and Becky Idman (Walpole, Mass.) was 37th with a time of 2:14.80.
England qualified for the consolation final in the men's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.28. Shane Kinnon (Malden, Mass.) finished 38th in the men's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48-flat.
Linn qualified for the consolation final in the women's 200-yard breaststroke with a 15th place time of 2:27.17 while Smrcina set herself up for the consolation final in the women's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.88.
Cameron Dwyer (Orono, Maine) finished 19th in the men's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.83 while Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.) was 25th at 2:00.03.
The women's 400-yard freestyle relay squad placed seventh at 3:39.11 while the men's squad finished 16th at 3:16.68.
