Maine Takes Two From Bates.

The University of Maine swimming and diving teams defeated Bates College at home on Saturday. The men won 135-96, and the women won 133-109. For the men the seniors led the way. Robbie Bickford (Milford, Maine) earned a first place win. Brent Williams (Clifton, Maine) and Cody Lachance (Winslow, Maine) both had strong finishes. On the women's side Lauren Dwyer (Orono, Maine) had two first place finishes. Naja Harvey (Orono, Minn.) and Erica Smrcina (North Falmouth, Mass.) each added a first place finish. Maine combined had 15 first place finishes.

David Vittori (South Berwick, Maine) started Maine off with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle at (10:24.15), followed by Willaims in second (10:27.38) and Lachance in third (10:28).

Maine paced the 200-yard freestyle when Cameron Dwyer (Orono, Maine) touched for the win at (1:48.15) followed by John Carlucci (Danbury, Conn.) 1:48.61.

John Mcleod grabbed a win in the 50-yard freestyle (22.30).

 Freshman diver Ethan Eckoff (Chelmsford, Mass.) swept the diving winning both the one-meter and the three-meter.
Sergey Terrio (Oakland, Maine) earned a win in the 200-yard butterfly at (1:58.17) and Carlucci touched for second (1:59.66). Bickford won the 500-yard freestyle at (5:00.15) followed by Williams (5:03.19).
For the women, Dwyer led the way with two wins in the 100-yard freestyle (53.85) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.72).

Kailey Dowd (Mendon, Mass.) finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle at (10:47.29).

Harvey had strong finishes as she touched for second place in the 50-yard freestyle (24.64) and grabbed a win in the 200-yard backstroke (2:25.26).

Smrcina won the 200-yard butterfly at (2:12.69) followed by Taylor Sharp (Burlington, Ontario) 2:13.59.

Katerina Mosquera-Cardi (Montreal, Canada) had strong showings, finishing second in the 100 yard IM at (1:00.89) and added a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle at (54.78).

Freshman diver Hayli Weitz took second in the one-meter with a score of 220.88 and finished third in the three meter at 197.33. Kara Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) won the three-meter with a score of 273.68.

Maine paced the relays winning the women's 400-yard medley at (4:02.22) and the women's 400-yard freestyle relay at (3:40.97). The men had a first place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay at (3:17.16).


Maine returns to the pool on Jan. 18th to take on Bowdoin.
