Conner and Fereshetian Lead Women's Track in Final Day of America East Championships
ORONO, Maine – Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.) smashed the America East record in the 5,000 meters and Allison Fereshetian (Turner, Maine) scored points in three events to lead the University of Maine women's track and field team at the final day of the America East Championships.
Conner won the 5,000 in an America East and Maine record time of 15:59.66. She broke the previous conference record by nearly 20 seconds and also qualified for the ECAC Championships.
Jillian O'Brien (Buffalo, N.Y.) took third in the 100-meter finals with a top-10 school time of 12.13.
Mary Scanlan (Pembroke, Mass.) was seventh in the 800 with a top-10 Maine time of 2:14.07 while Fereshetian took runner-up honors in the 100-meter hurdles with an ECAC-qualifying and top-3 school time of 14.00. Fereshetian also took eighth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:07.90.
The 4X800 relay team of Scanlan, Ashton Weiler (Rockaway, N.J.), Rachel Wilkinson (South Portland, Maine) and Jennifer Lucy (Bangor, Maine) was fifth with a time of 9:26.07 while the 4X400 team of Mary Fagan (Camden Hills, Maine) Fereshetian, Jessica McCarthy (Burlington, Mass.) and Lauren Roush (Hinsdale, Ill.) took eighth in a time of 3:56.82.
Lauren Heulitt (Jackson, N.J.) was seventh in the discus with a top-10 school throw of 127-04.
The women's team placed seventh with 56 points. The University at Albany took the title with 185 points.
