Corey Conner Leads Women's Track at Bates Invitational
LEWISTON, Maine – Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.) won a pair of events to lead the University of Maine women's track and field team to a second place finish with 192.50 points at the Bates Invitational on Saturday.
Conner took top honors in the mile with an ECAC-qualifying and top-3 school mark of 4:51.63. She also won the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:00.05.
Robyn McFetters (Barrington, R.I.) also qualified for the ECAC's, winning the weight throw with a mark of 52-06.00, which is a top-5 school distance.
Carolyn Stocker (Westfield, Mass.) won the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:46.57 while the 4X800 relay team Lauren Conner (Townsend, Mass.), Ariel McNett (Topsham, Maine), Ashton Weiler (Rockaway, N.J.) and Rachel Wilkinson also took top honors in a time of 10:07.42.
Jaclyn Masters (Auburn, Maine) won the pole vault in a tie-breaker with a top-5 school mark of 10-06.00 while Kathryn Porter (Bangor, Maine) took runner-up honors.
Jessica McCarthy (Burlington, Mass.) was second in the pentathlon with 2,988 points. Highlight her performance was a third place finish in the long jump with 14-11.25, a third place finish in the 60 hurdles in a time of 9.96, a win in the shot put with 34-04.75, a third place finish in the high jump with 4-09.50 and a close runner-up finish in the 800 with 2:30.27.
Annabelle Wilson (Geelong, Australia) was second in the 3,000 with a time of 10:20.39 while Ashten Hackett (Auburn, Maine) had a second place finish in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.46.
Hackett also took fourth in the pentathlon with 2,727 points highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.25, a fourth place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:35.08 and a fifth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 14-06.00.
Bates won the meet with 201.50 points.
