Conner and McFetters Lead Women's Track on Day One of America East Championships
ORONO, Maine – Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.) won the 5,000 meters and Robyn McFetters (Barrington, R.I.) took runner-up honors in the weight throw to lead the University of Maine women's track and field team on day one of the America East Indoor Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass. The women's team currently sits in fourth place with 33.50 points.
Conner took the 5,000 title in an ECAC-qualifying time of 16:24.13. The time is a top-3 mark in school history. Teammate Carolyn Stocker (Westfield, Mass.) took sixth in a time of 17:34.24.
McFetters took second in the weight throw with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 53-02.75, which ranks among the top-3 in school history.
Jaclyn Masters (Auburn, Maine) was fourth in the pole vault with a top-3 school mark of 11-03.75 while teammate Kathryn Porter (Bangor, Maine) tied for eighth with 10-04.00.
Jessica McCarthy (Burlington, Mass.) took fifth in the pentathlon with 3,038 points and was followed in seventh by Ashten Hackett (Auburn, Maine) with 2,902 points.
The women's distance medley relay team of Rachel Wilkinson (South Portland, Maine), Shannon O'Neil (Milan, N.H.), Taylor Cunningham (Beverly, Mass.) and Lauren Conner (Townsend, Mass.) took eighth with a time of 12:59.32.
O'Neill also took seventh in the prelims of the 400 to advance to the finals and will be joined by Mary Fagan (Camden, Maine) who qualified by taking 10th in a time of 59.52.
Allison Fereshetian (Turner, Maine) was second in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.85, a top-5 school time.
Binghamton leads with 50.50 points followed by Vermont with 40 points, Albany with 35 points and Maine.
The America East Indoor Championships return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m.
