BOSTON, Mass. – Two members of the Maine Track and field teams competed in the first day of the 2014 ECAC and IC4A indoor meet held in Boston, Mass. Jessica McCarthy highlighted the day as she took 10th in the pentathlon, rounding out her 2013-14 indoor campaign.
McCarthy finished the multi-event with a final point total of 3299, while Lehigh's Brooke Astor took first with 3774 points. The senior from Burlington, Mass., began the meet in the 60-meter hurdles event with an eight place finish coming in with a time of 9.42 seconds and 832 points.
She next competed in the high jump taking seventh overall with a final height of 1.54m (5-00.50). She also added 666 points to her overall total of 1,498 points. Riley Brandon took first in the event taking it with a final mark of 1.63m (5-04.25) and 771 points.
Next came the shot put where McCarthy finished just outside of the top-10, coming in 12th with an event-best distance of 9.46m (31-00.50) and 494 points. McCarthy followed that up with an 11th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.02m (16-05.75) adding 565 points to her total of 2,557.
McCarthy's best finish came in the 800-meter run coming in sixth overall. She finished the event with a mark of 2:26.18 and added 742 points to her overall total. Brandon once again finished tops in the event with a time of 2:19.41 and 832 points.
On the men's side Tristan Wortman was slated to compete in the men's heptathlon and competed in one of the four scheduled events for Friday, coming in ninth in the 60-meter dash (7.47 seconds), but didn't compete in the remaining three.
