ORONO, Maine – Several days after being honored by America East for their first-place performances last weekend, both Wilson Adams and Robyn McFetters of the Maine track and field teams added another award to their resumes as they were named Corvias ECAC Student-Athletes of the week. Both Adams and McFetters receive the honor after excelling in the weight throw events against Holy Cross in the team’s inaugural collegiate event at the New Balance indoor track and field facility.
Adams had a record-setting day for the Black Bears competing in the weight throw. Adams recorded a final toss of 19.08 meters (62-07.25), which bested a mark set back in 1964 by Richard Nason (61-00.05). His throw is not only ranked first in America East but also ranked 57th in the nation.
Likewise on the women's side McFetters also excelled in the weight throw coming first place in the event against the Crusaders. She finished first in the weight throw with a first place toss of 15.98m (52-05.25). McFetters has had a stellar season to this point placing first, in three out of the four meets when competing in the weight throw. Her toss in the first meet of the year against UNH still stands as the No. 1 throw in the conference with a mark of 16.05 meters (52-80).
Maine will be back action this weekend when both squads compete in a dual meet with UNH in Durha, N.H., as well as the Valentines Invite at Boston Univeristy. Both are slated for Feb. 8.
