Volleyball Drops Match to Albany

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (24-30, 27-30, 20-30) to Albany on Friday afternoon at Memorial Gym in Orono. The Black Bears fell to 3-22 overall and 2-10 in America East. The Great Danes improved to 19-8 and 8-3 in the league.

Laura Goettsch led the way for Maine with a team-high 11 kills, while Lindsay Allman added eight. Paige Tortorello had a team-high 20 assists, while Jessica Wolfenden added 14. Allman also notched 18 digs, while Ashlee Wright had 13. Goettsch had three blocks, while Brittany Kiehl, Amanda Armstrong and Margaret Page each had two.

The Black Bears held a 6-4 advantage early in the first game, but a 7-1 run by Albany gave the Great Danes the lead, which they would never relinquish the rest of the game. Following the game two loss, Maine jumped out to a 6-5 edge early in game three. However, Albany scored five of the next seven points to go up 10-8. The Great Danes led the rest of the way in pulling out the 10-point win.
