Men's and Women's Cross Country Named All-Academic Teams

Corey Conner and Jeremy Bender Win "M" Club Dean Smith Awards
The University of Maine announced on Sunday that Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.) of the cross country and women’s track and field team and Jeremy Bender (St. Paul, Minn.) of the men’s swimming team are the recipients of the 2011 “M” Club Dean Smith Awards. The awards are presented to the male and female student-athlete with outstanding academic and athletic achievement along with citizenship and community service.

Maine Honors Scholar-Athletes for Academic Achievement
he University of Maine announced on Wednesday that 239 student-athletes will be honored and recognized for their success in the classroom at the Scholar-Athlete Recognition ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011. One-hundred seventy four student-athletes will be recognized as Scholar-Athletes for achieving a 3.0 or better grade point average for the 2010 year and/or having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Sixty-five first-year student-athletes will also be honored as *Rising Stars* for earning a 3.0 or better in their first semester at Maine. The Scholar-Athletes and *Rising Stars* total 239, over half of the student-athletes at the University of Maine.

Maine Places Highest Percentage of Student-Athletes on America East Fall Academic Honor Roll
A record 634 student-athletes have been named to the 2010 Fall America East Academic Honor Roll. It is the highest number of student-athletes on the fall honor roll since its induction during the 1988-89 year. Student-athletes had to earn grade point averages of 3.0 or higher last semester to receive this recognition. Of those student-athletes, 331 earned Commissioner’s Honor Roll status for completing the fall semester with grade point averages of 3.50 or higher.

Corey Conner Leads Women's Team to Third Place Finish at America East Championships
University of Maine men's cross country standout Riley Masters (Bangor, Maine) won the America East Cross Country Championship on Saturday afternoon in Boston, Mass. His effort led the men's team to a fourth place finish while Corey Conner's (Townsend, Mass.) third place finish on the women's side led the lady Black Bears to a third place finish.

Corey Conner Wins New England Cross Country Championships
University of Maine junior standout Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.) won the 2010 New England Championships held on Saturday at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. Conner completed the 5.017 K course in an impressive 16:54. She led the Black Bears to a fourth place finish in the meet which featured 40 teams and 322 runners.

Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.) won the UMass Quad Meet on Saturday in Amherst, Mass. while Jason Kaake (Phippsburg, Maine) led the men’s team with a runner-up finish. The women won the meet with 41 points while the men placed third with 70.
