Mission Statement

The University of Maine fields NCAA Division I teams that aspire to the highest level of competition. As a component part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Department of Athletics is integral to the University’s mission to serve as the State’s center for learning, discovery, and service. The department’s directors, coaches, and staff are committed to developing and enhancing program offerings that benefit the student-athletes as well as all members of the University, local, and state communities who benefit through spectator opportunities and the use of athletic facilities.

UMaine Athletics is committed to providing a quality experience for its student-athletes. With support from the University, the department promotes the student-athletes’ success in academics, competition and personal development. The University of Maine expects that all students place academic progress and degree completion as their highest priority.

The University of Maine adheres to the highest standards of sporting conduct and fair play, both on and off the field. Coaches, athletes, and support personnel, as role models, consistently conduct themselves in a manner that brings credit to the University. The University of Maine is committed to institutional oversight to ensure full compliance with conference and NCAA Division I rules that govern intercollegiate athletics.

Members of the Athletic Department embrace the diversity and cultural harmony to which the entire University aspires. The University is committed to compliance with Title IX and to the letter and spirit of gender equity in athletics.
